麻坡是其名字相信是源自于其位置坐落在麻坡河河口旁而来的拥有名叫香妃城(Maharani)和文打烟(Bentayan)的两间公车/巴士总站、前往印尼杜迈和望加丽的渡轮服务以及公共医院的柔佛州皇城(但柔佛苏丹的官方皇宫坐落在新山)兼麻坡县的县府甚至是麻坡市议会(Majlis Perbandaran Muar)的地方政府所在地。当地人相信麻坡的发掘时间比马六甲市区/古城更早因在全世界的历史学家所著的纪录及史书可找到证据。麻坡的另一个名字香妃城(Bandar Maharani)则是由前柔佛苏丹已故苏丹阿布峇卡(Sultan Abu Bakar/Maharaja Abu Bakar)在一八八四年以其皇妃法蒂玛王妃(Maharani Fatimah)(后来为苏丹后法蒂玛/Sultanah Fatimah)来命名。麻坡也因这儿因充满了许多家具厂如马来西亚第一座家具中心麻坡家具工业园令其成为马来西亚最大的家具出口城市而被誉为马来西亚家具城因此这座城市也设立了一间拥有自助式家具体验馆、画廊、咖啡厅、木工工作坊、纪念品店、家具业主题历史走廊、展览厅与空中花园等的麻坡艺术馆与木工坊，它也以丹绒哥打邦的麻坡县长的官邸旁的日落观赏区、采蚝人、含有如中国教育家、政治家与书法家已故于右任/于伯循/于诱人/髯翁/太平老人先生和数位中国出生的新加坡书法家已故陈仁浩先生、已故崔大地先生与已故卢岩/卢修景/卢子佳先生等著名中文书法家提笔的牌匾的当地华人会馆大厦与华人店屋、以欧洲式与亚洲式元素为特色的海峡折衷样式建筑风格的店屋与装饰风艺术建筑风格的店屋、油炸小吃螺面/面干、沙爹/沙茶酱烤肉串、万隆面/马来什锦肉汁汤面以及乌达/烤鱼糕等闻名。另外，麻坡也是以马来西亚国油(Petronas)节庆广告闻名获得国际奖项的电影导演已故雅丝敏·阿莫(Yasmin Ahmad)女士、被誉为现代马来西亚艺术之父的以望月峰(Puncak Purnama)雕塑闻名的本地艺术家已故赛阿末(Syed Ahmad Jamal)先生、马来西亚首个双胞胎姐妹音乐组合筷子姐妹(别与新加坡同名的双胞胎姐妹组合混淆)(林彦均/林燕君女士与妹妹已故林彦伶/林燕玲女士)及当地艺术家兄弟已故陈培仁先生与一些其艺术品被马来西亚国家艺术馆收藏的弟弟陈培智先生的出生地。麻坡也是创立于一九八八年的世界舞狮队冠军麻坡关圣宫龙狮团与由当地果农哈丝玛哈欣/麻坡Mas(Hasmah Hashim)女士所培育拥有橘黄色果肉、果柄底部有小刺与果实尖端含有中等宽的细刺区域等的IOI 榴莲/D168 榴莲(Hjh.Hasmah/Mas Muar)的发源地以及建于一八八九年前麻坡铁路公司铁轨的前终站(因此麻坡内可找到现已改为关税局大厦的此铁轨的前火车站的遗址与黄金丹绒公园的麻坡铁路公司的火车头模型)、著名手工梅花棺棺材店潮利、建于一八九五年供奉着华人民间信仰与道教北方神、道教水神兼道教北极四圣之一真武大帝/玄天上帝/玄武的作为农历正月十五的元宵节期间博豆狮(获取豆狮)仪式的官方举办地点的粤东古庙及由俄罗斯艺术家朱莉娅·沃尔奇科娃(Julia Volchkova)女士所画描绘着两位马来姐妹努娜芝瓦(Nur Najwa)与努娜吉雅(Nur Najiyah)的约十一点八九米高与九点七五米宽的全马来西亚最大的人像壁画《姐妹情深》的所在地。除此之外，其名字源自于大街商业区的以像黄和烈路的以当地华人领袖来命名的街道闻名的福建/闽南方言歌曲闻名的本地印裔歌手小黑(Raja Kumara)先生的出生地巴口也坐落在麻坡附近。

It is the monument located near the Bentayan Food Court which is commemorating the archievements of Kun Seng Keng Lion & Dragon Dance Association(麻坡关圣宫龙狮团) has been titled as the Lion Dance King of the World(世界狮王) by winning the several international lion dance team championships tournaments. Kun Seng Keng Lion & Dragon Dance Association is the famous international Chinese Lion Dance association which is founded on 1988 by local amateur lion dance lover, Mr.Tan Chong Hing(陈忠兴). Acrobatic Lion Dance is the Chinese lion dance performances which is invented by Malaysian Chinese community has been listed as National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

It is also one of the departure points of Mount Ophir/Gunung Ledang about 1276m where is highest peak of Johor that famous for its legend of Princess Mount Ophir/Puteri Gunung Ledang & legendary gold of Ophir. Mount Ophir is the English place name, 金山 is Chinese place name & Gunung Ledang is Malay place name. Except for that, the mountain is also the field studying area of British naturalist, late Mr.Alfred Russel Wallace who is founded the Thoery of Evolution through Natural Selection has been influenced the Theory of Evolution of British biologist & also geologist, late Mr.Charles Darwin and the British naturalist, late Mr.Henry Nicholas Ridley who is promoted rubber tree to Malay Peninsula. Nam Thien Temple is the ancient Chinese temple since 1939 where is consists of main shrine that dedicated to Chinese & Buddhist God of Wealth called Lord Sudhana/San Chai Ya(善才童子/善财爷), shrine of founder of Buddhism, Lord Buddha/Sakyamuni(如来佛祖/释迦牟尼) & memorial of temple founder called Dato'Koh Thian Peng Memorial. Furthermore, the San Chai Chinese Primary School/S.R.J.K.(C) San Chai is also built by the temple with the donation of the believers. It is comes crowded during the Lord Sudhana/San Chai Ya's Deity Birthday Procession on 23th Day of First Month of Chinese Lunar Calendar every year. Bukit Gambir is Malaysian Chinese New Village/Kampung Baru where is contains the bus terminal that famous for its roads names are directly translated from Chinese blessing words such as Seng Hock Road/Jalan Seng Hock(幸福路) & Sin Gee Road/Jalan Sin Gee(信义路) etc. and paddy fields of Sawah Ring can overlooking the Mount Ophir/Gunung Ledangabout 270 hectares. The name of the Bukit Gambir is originated from the Gambir plantations on this hilly area during past time, Bukit means Hill in Malay words & Gambir is the plant that used for Chinese herbal medicine & one of the ingredients of tanning process. 金山瀑布前名为金山休闲森林(Hutan Lipur Gunung Ledang)是坐落在金山山脚下现由柔佛国家公园机构(Perbadanan Taman Negara Johor 所管理的作为麻坡河其中一个源头的多层瀑布休闲区兼小瀑布休闲区，它也是以其马来传说金山公主(Puteri Gunung Ledang)的神话与传说中俄斐的黄金闻名的约一千两百七十六米高的柔佛州最高峰金山的登山出发地点之一。Mount Ophir 是英文地名、金山是中文地名与Gunung Ledang 是马来文地名。除此之外，此山峰也是创立了影响了英国生物学家兼地质学家已故查尔斯·达尔文(Charles Darwin)先生的进化论的自然选择理论的英国博物学家已故阿尔弗雷德·拉塞尔·华莱士(Alfred Russel Wallace)先生以及向马来半岛推广橡胶树的英国博物学家已故亨利·尼古拉斯·里德利(Henry Nicholas Ridley)先生的实地考察地点。它也是柔佛国家公园机构的其中一座国家公园与柔佛的马来西亚国家遗产。瀑布是由硬石层底下的软石层侵蚀快过硬石层而形成直垂下水潭的水流的自然现象而小瀑布则由石级导致而成。全世界第一座国家公园就是美国的黄石国家公园。
